Voting in Minnesota for the 2024 general election kicks off on Friday with the opening of absentee voting.

If you know you’re not going to be able to vote in-person on Election Day or would rather avoid the busyness that day of voting in-person, we encourage people to take advantage of the opportunity.

Ballots will be available at the Freeborn County Auditor-Treasurer’s Office, which is on the main level of the courthouse.

In Minnesota, we have what is called no-excuses absentee voting, which allows residents to vote early without an excuse. It makes voting more accessible for those who qualify.

To vote absentee by mail, complete and submit an absentee ballot application online at mnvotes.org or download an application from the website and mail, fax or e-mail it to the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office. Election officials will mail the absentee ballot materials soon after receiving the application.

There are many safety protocols in place to protect the integrity of your ballot, so voters can be reassured the ballot will be cast properly.

As always, make sure you are educated about who is on the ballot before voting.

There’s a lot on the ballot this November, and much is at stake.
