EN(dur)ANCE by Robin Gudal
I love fall and enjoy decorating our home seasonally; the color palette of this season falls within my favorites. I have all the pumpkins, leaves and “Thankful, grateful, blessed” signs up.
“Give thanks to the Lord for he is good.” — Psalms 107:1a, NIV
When I travel to town from our hobby farm, I go past a beautiful front yard garden. This makes my heart so happy as it reminds me of Idaho, where my sister lives, and it is the custom to have front-yard gardens. They are beautiful and often compliment the personality of the homeowner. I have observed through the summer months as this gentleman set up a beautiful trellis system, manicured it, cared for and spent time in preparation for the “fruit of his labor” crop. His vines system makes an “L” shape as it goes around a corner and his well-taken-care-of display is simple and beautiful to me. I literally smile when approaching his home. I’ve watched as the little yellow flower buds appeared, the small squash began to mature and now are almost ready to pick.
There was one that no longer hangs there. I wondered why. I found myself sad for the gentleman, as I am sure if a driver-by is watching the progression, the man with whom has the real investment surely knows of the missing vegetation. It made my mind wander to scripture.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” — 2 Peter 3:9
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” — Galatians 5:22-23a, NIV
I am not a gardener. Thus, I only enjoy produce from others. I am thankful for our farmers, gardeners and friends who share.
“One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.” — William Shakespeare.
“Where flowers bloom, so does hope.” — Lady Bird Johnson
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.” — John 15:1 NIV
Blessed fall season to each and all!
