Our area is dependent on a healthy farm economy. In addition to this season’s difficult weather, grain prices are depressed. China’s warehouses are reportedly full, indicating a longer-term problem with demand. With a few exceptions, the costs of inputs — seed, fertilizer, herbicides and others like machinery are elevated. Farm income is forecast to be depressed.

In spite of this difficult situation, Brad Finstad voted against the continuing resolution to fund the federal government. In other words he voted to shut down the government. He used the same old tired excuses for his no vote. If he would have prevailed, the result would have been closed Farm Service Agency offices and other federal services just when they are most needed.

Fortunately enough other representatives and senators voted to pass the funding extension. We need a representative who will represent our needs.

Vote for Rachel Bohman for 1st Congressioal District representative.
