Update: Medical condition could have caused motorcycle crash on Highway 65 near Glenville

Authorities say a medical condition could have caused a crash Sunday evening in Glenville that injured two people.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Robert Allen Markwardt, 60, of St. Charles was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on U.S. Highway 65 with a passenger at 5:18 p.m. when it left the roadway near First Street Northwest.

Markwardt was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for non-life threatening injuries.

His passenger, Monica Jean Fairchild, 60, of Lyle, also received non-life threatening injuries but was not taken to the hospital.

Neither Markwardt nor Fairchild were wearing helmets.

State Patrol Sgt. Troy Christianson states while alcohol was detected, it was not a contributing factor in causing the crash, according to preliminary reports. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Glenville Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance assisted at the scene.
