Eugene A. Schilling

Eugene Alexander Schilling, 71, of Glenville, passed away on October 18, 2024, following a battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 26, 1953, in Austin, MN, he was a son of the late Alexander “Fritz” Schilling and Janice (Hansen) Schilling. A 1971 graduate of Glenville High School, Eugene enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1972. He received the rank of E-5 and was honorably discharged in 1980. He was stationed with Pride Strategic Air Command Grissom Air Force base in Dyess, Texas. During his service he was part of the 305-air refueling wing and the 96-bomb wing.

Eugene married his high school sweetheart, Angela (Hintz) Schilling, on April 27, 1979. Eugene and Angela had three sons: Luke, Matt and Tim.

Eugene was employed at Freeborn Food for 34 years. After retirement, he managed the Northwood Country Club and worked at the Fast Stop convenience store in Northwood, Iowa. At the age of 67, Eugene fully retired and enjoying working in the garage with his welder while battling bladder and kidney cancer.

An amateur trumpet player, Eugene played with the Fountain Street Brass Band, the MN over 60 Band, and was pit player for the Marion Ross Theater. A lifelong 4-H Leader, Eugene enjoyed spending time with his family doing several activates like fishing and camping trips, hunting with his sons, brothers and cousins, and watching sprint car races. Eugene was a fighter and had a sense of humor that made everyone laugh and smile.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services with a visitation beginning at 1:00PM.

Those left to cherish Eugene’s memory include his wife of 45 years, Angie; three sons, Luke Schilling, Matt Schilling, and his wife Ariel, and Tim Schilling; siblings, Rodney Schilling, Wendell Schilling and his wife Debra, Neal Schilling and his wife Jodi, and Terry Schilling; numerous nieces and nephews, several extended family members and countless friends.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Janice Schilling; parents-in-law, Tom and Marian Hintz; sisters-in-law, Maryann Hintz and her husband, Leon Moran, and Tracy Shilling; and a brother-in-law, Jodi Hintz.
