Darrel Amundson

Darrel Walter Amundson, 72, passed away November 9, 2024, at St John’s Care Facility in Albert Lea.
Darrel was born January 22, 1952 to Walter and Veva (Sayles) Amundson. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1970. Darrel married Patricia (Pat) Schlarbaum May 5, 1984, and they were blessed with 3 children,Michelle, Jason, and Christopher.
His love of music started at an early age as he watched the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. He continued his love of music throughout his career with KATE/KCPI radio as an announcer and the various bands he played and sang with throughout the area. Darrel was known as ‘the voice of Kate Radio and Albert Lea’ for nearly 50 years.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 40+ years Patricia (Pat) and his children, Michelle (Kevin) Anthony, Jason Amundson (Nicolle Wilhite) and Christopher (Lola) Amundson. Grandchildren Bradley and Brett Anthony, Matthew Shuck, Christian and Keegan Amundson, Ana Wilhite, and Decker Sorum along with many other family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents Walt and Veva Amundson, his brother Ricky Amundson, his in-laws Joyce and Alfred Schlarbaum, brother-in-laws Steve Tuttle, Duane Miner and Dale Brekke, and sister-in-law Kathy Brekke.
The family wishes to thank the Mayo Hospice nurses and aides and the St. John’s Woodlands staff. Darrel’s body was donated to the Mayo Clinic Body Donation Program.
A Celebration of Life service in his honor will be on December 14, 2024, from 2-4 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN.
