Update: State Patrol releases names of 3 who died after head-on collision on I-35 in Worth County

Three people died and three were injured after a head-on collision one mile north of the Manly and Forest City exit on Interstate 35 Saturday morning.

According to the State Patrol, a 2014 Volkswagen Eos was driving southbound in the northbound lane of I-35 after crossing the median, and a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado was northbound when the two vehicles collided in the inside lane of I-35 near milemarker 204.

The crash occurred at 8:55 a.m.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Leonard Lilyholm, 83, and passenger Carol Lilyholm, 82, both of Palm Beach, Florida, died from injuries sustained in the crash, along with the driver of the Silverado, Bradley Vonnahme, 41, of Coon Rapids, Iowa.

Injured were Brookes Vonnahme, 6, of Coon Rapids; Saul Huntley-Ayala, 26, of Ames, Iowa; and Victor Santos, 24, also of Ames.

The report stated all of the occupants were wearing their seat belts, and all were taken to MercyOne North Iowa in Mason City.

Forest City Ambulance, Northwood First Responders and Ambulance and Iowa Department of Transportation and Department of Natural Resources, Worth County Sheriff’s Office and Fertile and Hanlontown Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
