If you’ve ever been in a situation or have known of someone who greatly needed help to get through an incident of domestic violence, sexual assault or another type of crime, then you know how important it is to have this type of assistance.
The Crime Victim’s Crisis Center is gearing up for another volunteer training session, starting March 31.
Men and women, ages 16 and older (who live in Freeborn County), are asked to join their agency and be a part of this important organization.
No previous experience is required, other than a compassion for other people and a willingness to help them in their time of need.
“We strongly encourage volunteers to step forward and help provide assistance to victims of crime,” said Michelle French, CVCC volunteer coordinator.
“It is a very flexible position.”
CVCC volunteers are asked to carry the on-call cell phone (which can go anywhere), provide their talents and time in promoting the organization, or maybe to man the booth at a local event to make the public more aware of the agency and what it offers, she said.
The CVCC provides 24-hour assistance to victims of crime and it’s only a phone call away.
The agency provides crime victims with emotional support, information and referrals (either in person or on the phone).
The next 40-hour training begins on March 31 and continues through May 19 on Tuesday evenings and on two Saturdays.
Though the training is mandatory to be a volunteer, there is some flexibility regarding make-up sessions.
Those people interested should contact Michelle at 377-5464, as soon as possible.
