The Lake Mills wrestling team hosted a quad Thursday night and wrestled the best they have all year.

In the first two duals of the night, the Bulldogs trampled Eagle Grove 57-19, and Rockford, 78-0. The biggest highlight of these two duals was Wyatt Hanna breaking the school record for career pins, with 115, in the Rockford dual.

“It was nice to have a couple duals to warm up for the Osage dual,” said coach Alex Brandenburg. “We were very aggressive and wrestled well.”

The premier dual of the night pitted No. 9 Lake Mills against No. 5 Osage, who came into the dual meet with an 80-dual win streak in the Top of Iowa Conference. Their last loss came back in 2019, when Lake Mills beat them, 35-33. The atmosphere was electric for this back and forth dual, as the score was tight throughout. There were many times individual Bulldogs came through in crucial spots to either get pins or limit Osage’s bonus points.

It came down to the last match, when the third- and fourth-ranked wrestlers clashed at 285 pounds. Lake Mills needed at least a major decision to win the meet.

Hanna built a lead over Ledger Nehls and finished him off with a pin in the third period, propelling Lake Mills to a 37-35 victory.

“Our kids wrestled harder for each other than they had all season,” Brandenburg said. “Every kid fought tooth and nail to either get a pin, bonus points or not give up bonus points. It was a total team victory.”
