Here are highlights in history for June 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1990 — A front page photo in the Tribune featured Brook Cuden and Eric Nyquist, the student speakers at the 106th commencement for Albert Lea High School.

1980 — Maude Koevenig, the Tribune’s “Nature’s World” columnist, commented about the albino, or all-white squirrels. She mentioned Olney, Ill., a town famous for its many white squirrels.

1940 — Albert Lea Mayor Edgar Hayek was inducted into the Sac and Fox tribe of Indians from Tama, Iowa.
