Chesley F. Hibbard died on Jan. 23 and family members asked that memorials be given in the name of the Albert Lea Audubon Chapter and the Albert Lea Marching Band. At the school board meeting Feb. 17, the family presented the marching band with a $1,000 donation. From left are Kathy Nelson, Kelly Nelson, and Matt Attig, accepting the gift from Ila, Jay and Jon Hibbard. Band members wrote, “Thank you just isn’t enough to express our thanks for your generous donation. It is greatly appreciated and will be used wisely. The Albert Lea marching band has a long history in Minnesota and it is because of community support like yours.” Additionally, the family forwarded more than $800 to the Audubon Society. Chesley Hibbard, after being wounded in Korea, was assigned parade duty in Washington, D.C. He was an early sponsor of the Albert Lea marching band in its infancy.
