Bike-A-Thon raises $36,575

This year’s Bike-A-Thon to raise funds for the Freeborn County Chapter of the American Cancer Society actually took place at two locations. One was the 38th annual event held on May 1 with a scheduled 100-mile bicycle ride around the county. The second took place on one of the Marshall Islands out in the Pacific Ocean. As a result, a total of $36,575 was raised. And of this total, $4,407 came from the first “sister ride” held at a location several thousand miles from Albert Lea, T-shirts will be sent to the Marshall Islands bikers.
At the bank night held Tuesday at Skyline Plaza, several reports wee made regarding this year’s two Bike-A -Thons. One report said there were 51 team riders in the Freeborn County event. Also, at this bank night, the top 16 fund raisers were awarded prizes.
Leading the list was Alicia Ryan of the Twin Cities, who raised $2,125 and was awarded a mint proof set of coins by Security Bank Minnesota.
Other fundraisers and their prizes are: David Anderson, raised $1,933, $25 certificate from Martin’s Cycling; Richard Diaz, 1,643, bond from U.S. Bank; Sherrie Burt, $1,435, bond from Farmers State Bank, Martin C. Johnson, $1,042, $25 Chamber Bucks from Western Rental; Anicen Navarro, $1,000, Silver Eagle Coin from Citizens State Bank of Glenville; Donald Munden, $900 bond from Farmers State Bank; Leon Bure, $865, Bond from US Bank; Robert Navarro, $663.48, $30 check from United Employees Credit Union; Ben Hughes, $560, $25 certificate from Martin’s Cycling; Dr. Gareth Hataye, $517, $25 certificate from Martin’s Cycling; Glen Juveland, $510, $25 Chamber Bucks from State Farm Insurance; Chuck Sandager, $420, $25 certificate from Martin’s Cycling, Stacy Furness, $386, bond from Home Federal Savings Bank; Jacob Moffitt, $374, $10 gift card from McDonald’s; and Mikki Rothbauer, $315, $10 certificate from The Trumble’s.
As a special award, $75 in Chamber Bucks was given by Erlandson Implement to the youngest rider turning in the most money, Jacob Moffitt.
