ST. PAUL — Tuition in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system would go up next year in the proposed budget that goes before the Board of Trustees on Wednesday.
The budget includes a maximum tuition rate increase of 4 percent for colleges and 5 percent for universities.
The average tuition for a full-time student in the system’s colleges would be $4,644 next year, an increase of $166 over the current year. In the universities, the proposed average tuition for a full-time student is $6,497, an increase of $299.
Because the Legislature and Gov. Mark Dayton haven’t yet worked out a state budget, the proposed MnSCU budget is based on the assumption the system will get $65 million less next year than it did in the fiscal year ending June 30.
