Memorial services for Donald Leslie Cox, age 62, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Kristi Koppel will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors accorded by Freeborn County area veterans organizations. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Donald died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at his home.
Donald Leslie Cox was born on Jan. 14, 1949, to Leonard and Audrey (Marpe) Cox at Naeve Hospital. He grew up in Hayward and attended Hayward elementary school. Donald graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1967. After high school he went to the vo-tech in Austin for electronics. In 1969 Donald was drafted in to the United States Marines and served his country in Vietnam. On July 10, 1971, he married Karen Paulson at St. Olaf Church in Austin. Donald worked for Queen’s, Enders Tools and spent many years driving a semi and also owned A-Cobra Cab. He loved old cars especially mustangs and enjoyed reading in his spare time.
Survivors include his former wife, Karen Cox; children, Anthony Cox, Dustin Cox, Shannon Cox, Amber Cox and Angela Cox; grandchildren, Jackson and Brooklyn; mother, Audrey Cox, sister, Virginia (Jeff) VandeKamp; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
