Probation check leads to arrests

At approximately 12:3l a.m. Sunday officers of the Albert Lea Police Department assisted a Freeborn County probation agent with conducting a probation check at 2149 Bridge Ave.

Scott Alan Possehl. 20, was arrested for allegedly violating Albert Lea’s recently approved social host ordinance. This check came after a gathering of underage people (under 21 years of age), hosted by the renter (Possehl) of the residence, were discovered consuming alcoholic beverages. This reported violation is the first of the recently approved ordinance.

Officers transported Possehl and three adult males, all ages 18, and one juvenile female to the Freeborn County Adult Detention Center. Additional charges included probation violation, illegal consumption, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing the legal process.

The news release from the police department said, “The Albert Lea City Council intends to discourage underage possession and consumption of alcohol, even if done within the confines of a private residence, and intends to hold person criminally responsible who host events or gatherings where persons under 21 years of age possess or consume alcohol regardless of whether the person hosting the event or gathering supplied the alcohol.”

Barn catches fire

A hog barn at 30385 645th Ave. near Freeborn caught fire at 3:04 a.m. today, according to Freeborn County Deputy Sheriff Gene Arnold.

Arnold said the barn maintained some structural damage, and there were no hogs in the barn at the time of the fire.

The owner had the fire under control before the Freeborn Fire Department arrived at the scene, he said.
