United Methodist Women met June 1 at 10 a.m. with JoAnn Seuser from Martha circle opening the meeting by introducing Pat Stumme from Senior Resources of Freeborn County. Stumme shared various programs and services provided through the agency including many volunteer opportunities. She also explained the “Bone Builder” program.
The business meeting was opened by President Marty Beckmann with prayer and the purpose of the organization. Fern Urbatsch gave the secretary’s report and took circle reports. Ruth Vermedahl gave the treasurer’s statement. A letter was read from REACT concerning the July 4th weekend at the travel center where cookies and cold drinks are shared with travelers. A $25 purchase of cookies is being made.
Adean Turner, Spiritual Growth chairwoman, gave an inspirational reading on “pan covers” and Father’s Day. For Social Action Sharon Nelson encouraged members to write to their congressmen about concerns for schools and other important issues. Lea Nolting reported that she will be bringing treats for the “SPIRE” group on June 16 and would appreciate homemade cookie donations. JoAnn Seuser offered to send a card to Dorothy Balder with thanks for all her service and happiness in her new home.
The School of Christian Missions at St. John’s University was emphasized along with responsibilities for the Southern Prairie Annual Meeting to be held in Albert Lea Sept. 17. The president asked the summer fund raiser Task Force to meet soon. June 14 is the date for the Morning Apart at Fairfax and the Evening Apart at Jackson.
