An 11-year-old boy was struck by a car on Minnesota Highway 30 Wednesday morning while crossing the street on his bicycle.

A spokesman with the Waseca County Sheriff’s Office said the boy, William Radau, was riding his bicycle on the street at 7:42 a.m., when he went to cross just west of the railroad tracks, closest to the cross street with Broadway Avenue.

The bike went out in front of a car, driven by 40-year-old Robin Eder of Geneva, who was driving westbound on the highway, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The car struck the boy.

It was just a few blocks away from the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva School.

The New Richland Ambulance, New Richland Fire Department and Waseca Ambulance responded, and Radau was transported to Albert Lea Medical Center.

ALMC Community Relations and Marketing Specialist Jennifer Levisen said the boy was treated and released.

A Waseca County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said authorities assumed the boy was on his way to school, but did not know for sure.

The woman was not cited.
