Here are highlights in history for June 23, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1987 — A two-inch rainstorm resulted in the usual flooding on East Main Street and a few stalled cars in the big pond of water.

1977 — This was the first day for the centennial celebration in New Richland. Among the events would be a parade, several band concerts, a pageant and selection of a queen.

1947 — The Albert Lea City council was considering a plan to widen the streets around Central Park to increase car parking space. (Note: This proposal became a reality.)
