Rebels beat Mavs

The United South Central football team traveled to Sherburn Friday to face the Martin County West Mavericks, in search of their second straight win.

The Rebels rushed for 170 yards and three touchdowns on the ground as USC defeated MCW 20-8.

“I’m very proud of our kids,” USC head coach Brad Huse said. “We scored the first two times and put the Martin County West offense on its heels. I’m very proud of how the offense and defense played tonight.”

The USC offense pushed the Mavericks around all night as they rolled to 313 total yards on offense.

The Rebels used a balanced offensive attack gaining 170 yards rushing and 143 yards through the air.

The USC offense also had three rushing touchdowns, as Tyson Morton scored twice and Chris Melby scored once.

Morton led the offense with 14 carries for 41 yards and two touchdowns, while Melby had 12 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Cole Stenzel went 11-of-20 passing for 143 yards.

While the Rebels offense was clicking, the USC defense was equally impressive.

The Rebels defense held MCW to only 129 yards of total offense and intercepted Mavericks quarterback Steven Zehms three times.

Dustin Dylla led the USC defense with two interceptions on the night.

With the win, USC improves their record to 2-2 and host Lake Crystal- Wellcome Memorial next Friday in Wells.
